I got to know Mr. Durette in the late 1970s when he started out as an ocularist. I was a young adult and having an unsuitable prosthetic eye that was spinning all over the place bothered me a lot. When we are young we are particularly sensitive to our appearance. It greatly affected my self-confidence. And now, when I arrived in Montreal, someone introduced me to the practice of Mr. Durette. Following a diagnosis concerning my 4-year-old daughter’s right eye, Ste-Justine referred us to an ocularist. Initially, we visited another clinic in Montreal (without naming it). They had us use a shell for 1 hour on the first day, 2 hours on the second day, and so on. We had to deal with restraints, manage crises, etc. When we returned to Ste-Justine to explain the situation, they were appalled by the approach we had been suggested and referred us directly to Mr. Durette’s clinic.
From our first visit, we were already surprised by the difference in the approach. First, they molded a trial prosthesis, which had not been done at the other clinic. Then, we were informed that we should not remove a prosthesis if it was going well and the eye was reacting well; they explained how to remove it and so on. Unfortunately, my daughter did not tolerate the prosthesis despite several adjustments. I had to call Mr. Durette several times, who was always available and very involved. After discussing it, we followed Mr. Durette’s advice and had our daughter undergo surgery to remove all sensitivity. Since then, we are thrilled parents; our daughter has been wearing her prosthesis for several months now, and it is truly a work of art! We can now say that her eyes are both beautiful! I refer Mr. Durette and his team without any hesitation and with complete confidence. Thank you so much.
